Diary of a family lockdown

Jul 17, 2021

Covid lockdown in Colombia lasted for 161 days in 2020, between March and September. During that time, I had barely any contact with other living beings but my mother, Mercedes (and our dog William). While some friends were desperate to go outside, enjoy a drink or dance, I was happy with the silent and quiet scenes in our house, even if few times it was boring.

Photography was a very good therapy versus digital environment that overwhelmed me for so many days. Through this photo essay my mother and I strengthened our relationship; we found a way to distract ourselves from the news of death and hopelessness.

I feel extremely grateful to her, who made possible my recovery from covid, which I got infected months later, in July 2021. This photo essay is also a love letter from a son to his savoir, his mother.
